Bounce House Rules for Kids
Bounce houses are designed to be exciting and fun for children, but they also require clear rules to keep everyone safe. Most bounce house injuries happen when kids play too roughly, jump with children much larger than themselves, or ignore basic safety guidelines.
The good news is that a few simple rules can dramatically reduce accidents. Parents and supervisors should make sure children understand these rules before entering the inflatable.
The Three Most Important Rules
If you remember only a few rules, these are the most important ones.
- Group kids by size and age. Never mix older children with toddlers.
- No shoes or sharp objects. Shoes, jewelry, glasses, and belts should be removed.
- Respect the capacity limit. Most standard bounce houses allow around 5–8 children at one time.
These three rules alone prevent many bounce house accidents.
Behavior Rules Inside the Bounce House
Children should understand that a bounce house is not the place for rough play.
- No flips or somersaults. These can cause neck and spinal injuries.
- No wrestling or pushing.
- No climbing on the walls or netting.
- No jumping off the front step.
Encouraging simple jumping and playful bouncing keeps the activity safe and fun.
Entering and Exiting Safely
Many accidents occur near the entrance of the inflatable. Children should follow these entry rules.
- Only one child should enter or exit at a time.
- Wait until the entrance area is clear.
- Use the step or ramp instead of jumping out.
Keeping the entrance area organized prevents collisions and falls.
Adult Supervision Is Required
A responsible adult should always monitor the bounce house while children are playing.
- Watch the entrance and exit area.
- Enforce capacity limits.
- Separate children by age if needed.
- Stop rough play immediately.
Active supervision greatly reduces the chance of accidents.
What To Do If the Bounce House Deflates
Bounce houses stay inflated using a blower that pushes air into the inflatable. If the blower stops running, the unit will slowly deflate.
- Stop play immediately.
- Help children exit calmly.
- Do not allow kids to remain inside.
The inflatable should remain empty until the blower is working again.
Weather Safety Rules
Weather conditions can change quickly during outdoor events.
- Stop using the bounce house during strong winds.
- Deflate the inflatable if lightning approaches.
- Wet surfaces can become slippery.
If weather conditions become unsafe, children should exit the inflatable immediately.
